The beach of Agios Stefanos is located on the southern side of the island, about 40 km from the capital and only 3 km from the quiet area of Kefalos. The beach, characterized by a wide, mostly sandy coastline, has turquoise and transparent waters. Ideal for families and for those who love sea life, it has sea bottoms that gently slope offshore. Equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas (cost about 7/8 €) is very well-known above all for the remains of ancient Christian temples discovered in 1932 by the Italian archaeologist Lorenzi, decorated with beautiful mosaics right near the beach. Even more suggestive then the presence in the sea, not far from the shoreline, of a beautiful islet named Kastri which rises about 200 meters, on which there is a small white church with a blue roof (the monastery of Saint Antonios) where for those who face the swim crossing, climb the rocks and play the small bell placed at the side of the church seems to bring good luck and grant the wishes expressed in the while you play the bell. There are no kiosks behind, but there is a kind of van where to find drinks and snacks. If you then want to opt for a full lunch everything is nearby (you still need a means of transport), you can find typical taverns with dishes of Greek cuisine both meat and fish. The only adjective that makes the idea is “splendid” for this place that seems forgotten by God and that will surely remain in your heart.
